Ecological Dimensions
Several efforts have been made by Taylor's to attain an ecologically sustainable enterprise which shows future efficiency of viticulture and winemaking . The file at the bottom of this document outlines Taylor's Environmental Policy. where their vision is to "act responsible for future generations."

Carbon Offsetting
80 Acres RangeThe eighty acres ranges of wines was the first Taylor's range that was deemed 100% carbon neutral. It was classified carbon neutral using the international standard for life-cycle assessment and then offset using high quality offsets. Offsetting of the 80 acre range carbon emissions began in August 2009 and the development is evident:

Waste and Pollution
Recycling
Opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle waste produced from operations must be taken as to assure a ecologically sustainable future. Landfill management in the region has implemented practices including:
- glass waste
- cardboard and paper
- organic solid residuals
- winery waste water
- e-waste
- take backs with suppliers for packaging waste
Management of solid residuals
Solid residuals have the ability to destabilise production within a vineyard, thus having detrimental effects on the resulting quality of the grape varieties. In order to dispose of organic winemaking residuals, Taylor's have adopted a cost effective sustainable solution. Grape marc shown in Figure 3.2, is the residue of winemaking which is recycled to extract tannins, grape alcohol and other compounds using a steam distillation process. The spent solids are synthesised along side other production concentrates creating a product called TPR - this is returned and applied to the the winery vineyard as a soil conditioner. Also, solid residuals, namely filter cake are recycled and calcium tartrate is extracted creating Tartaric Acid for use in the wine industry.

Water conservation
Drip IrrigationAll irrigation occurring in Taylor's use computer controlled 'need-only' drip lines. Two lined dams eliminate water loss through 'seepage.' Continuously logging EnviroScan probes directly monitor soil moisture in the area which gives information for the specific amount of water needed at different times.

Energy Efficiency
Light Weight Glass Bottles |
Taylor's Wines was one of the first enterprises to adopt OI's innovative Lean+Green lightweight glass initiative in Australia. The new glass was first implemented into Taylor's carbon neutral Eighty Acres range, and now bottles Promised Land and Taylors Estate ranges as well. The glass bottle is approximately 40% lighter than the original Eighty Acres range glass bottles and equals to a 15% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per bottle.
